EuroX Trip: Day 18

Three things happened today.
It was Lunar New Year, so Shin-yeng, gong fat hei choi and chuc mung nam moi. It's now the Yes r of the Ox, my animal year.
It was also Australia Day.
We also arrived in Venice.

Venice is a beautiful city. We were lucky enough to arrive when the sun was shining above a beautiful, clear sky. It was a surreal experience, to emerge from the train station and be greeted by the sight of the Grand Canal. Boats going up and down this huge waterway, with houses on either side. The streets were tiny, and wouldn't fit big crowds.

Henry and I spent the day wandering Venice, making a trip to Murano to see the famed Murano glassware, which is really pretty. I imagine that guys who take their girlfriends there would come back with their wallets considerably lighter.
It was a surreal experience, puttering up and down the Grand Canal in valporetos, water buses. They are Venice's equivalent of a metro system, each even having individual lines for the routes they take. They are also rather rickety things, and have a tendency to grind and grunt like you would think they were scraping the bottom of the canal. They also bang up against the pontoon-stops that they periodically stop at along the way, which shows on the pontoons.
